Q Directions The Report Back assignment allows you to gather information about concepts that we are discussing during the unit and test them out in the real world! As you report your results, please do not indicate full names. For each unit Report Back: 1. Respond with your answers to this unit's Report Back questions. 2. Ask five adult volunteers this unit's Report Back questions. Using only adult volunteers adds standardization to this activity. 3. Report back on your results. 4. Briefly summarize your observations. Include in your summary, how many of your respondents behaved as predicted. 5. After Thursday, check back and add at least one posting to summarize or to discuss the responses. Report Back This Unit The Mere-Exposure Effect The purpose of this activity is to examine whether the mere-exposure effect will influence volunteers' selections of favorite letters of the alphabet. More specifically, our selections of our 5 favorite letters of the alphabet may be influenced by seeing or writing certain letters over and over again. This exposure may influence how favorably we regard the letters. A mere-exposure effect would predict that individuals would select those letters that they see frequently, for example the letters in their names (especially their initials). Ask five individuals to respond to the following questions: 1. Would you change your name if you could? Why? 2. What are your 5 favorite letters of the alphabet? 3. Did he or she select their initials? Selecting one's initials is an indication that the subtle process of the mere-exposure effect is at work. 4. Optional: Ask them why they selected the ones they did, that is fine. http://www.hollywood.com/celebrities/celebrities-who-changed-their-names-60201797/#/ms-20729/4
